The Minnesota Spring Cleanup Window
The ideal time for spring cleanup in the Twin Cities is mid-April to early May. The ground should be fully thawed, daytime temps consistently above 50, and the soil dry enough to walk on without compacting it.
What to Do First
Rake debris and dead leaves from beds and lawn. Cut back perennials that were left for winter interest. Edge beds and walkways. Apply pre-emergent weed control before soil temps hit 55 degrees. Then mulch — 2-3 inches of hardwood mulch in all beds.
